Week six of the 2025 NFL season
Live coverage includes live text of the weekend matchups via multiple platforms, beginning with Denver Broncos v New York Jets in London (kicking off at 2 PM BST). Also, audio coverage is available on select stations for another key matchup (beginning at 9 PM BST).
It's week six of the NFL season and after last week's discussion regarding the Buffalo Bills and Philadelphia Eagles as a potential Super Bowl match-up, they both lost their perfect starts.
Striking during those contests was the amount of infractions both committed. The Eagles did so at crucial times so they essentially defeated themselves having led 17-3 entering the fourth period against Denver, set to play in London this weekend.
But it was positive to see that Denver quarterback the rookie was able to overcome the shortfall before lead three successful possessions on three possessions in the fourth quarter, securing the game by four points.
The Broncos boast the top defender in cornerback Pat Surtain II. They are first in goal-line defense, while Philadelphia are number one in scoring near the end zone, yet the Broncos prevailed in that battle.
They had effective strategies regarding disguised blitzes. They did not necessarily rushing more than four defenders but they could position two linebackers in the 'A' gap before drop them out and dispatch a nickel from the outside.
Early on in the campaign, we said during a show that Denver might emerge as the current year's surprise contenders. They ended the previous year strongly and excelled in continuing that momentum.
Are the Denver Broncos this year's underdog story?
New TE Evan Engram has stepped up significantly and new RB their rusher is a guy the team trusts. He now ranks fifth league-wide for rushing yards (402) as well as tied for fourth in rushing scores (four).
I love that head coach the Broncos' leader has "RUSH!" prominently on his call sheet.
This demonstrates that Denver represent a team that wants to prioritize the run, because you can do a lot off the back of that. It slows opposing rushes and keeps you in favourable situations.
It's also helped QB Bo Nix, who entered into the league as a first-round selection last year, throwing 29 TDs – second only to a star QB for the rookie record (31 in 2020).
Other elite QBs possess the arm strength to pass all over, however they lack the mobility as Nix. He boasts incredible passing ability, a unique trait, plus he's so athletic.
His strengths are his mobility, being able to throw while moving, as well as finding varied release points to make the pass as he moves outside protection, on rollouts. He can deliver that layered pass over the middle or past defenders.
As a rookie QB, aged 25, he's got great composure under pressure and isn't bothered by extra rushers. He aims to avoid being tackled whenever possible and can pass in tight spots. He possesses sharp intelligence and remains very decisive.
If you constantly run the ball it consumes the clock and forces the opponent to be on the field extended periods, and when you've got an athletic quarterback the defence must cover the field vertically and horizontally. It can be exhausting.
The quarterback has pushed back with the coach on the sideline at times and I think Payton appreciates that attitude, seeing him as a fierce rival. In my view it's fun for the coach to have a rookie QB that is kind of like moldable clay. The coach can really develop him how he desires to build it. I think it's a special experience for the coach.
Payton has won a Super Bowl and now surpassed a legend in all-time victories (173 - tied 14th overall). He has witnessed it all. In my opinion the achievements the Broncos are having offensively is mostly due to his leadership, his play-calling, his game sense – and the pairing with the QB aids make him what he is.
You wouldn't want a more qualified person guiding you, to help you during difficult moments and boost confidence.
I have faith in Denver's defence, in Bo Nix's tenacity and composure. Yet are they good enough to face an elite team at its best? Since that was not championship-level play by the Eagles last Sunday.
Right now, it's unlikely the Broncos are elite. They're working above average, that's a solid position to hold the AFC West. All they need is is maintain this path.
They excel at leaning into their forte, which is the ground game, and that's exactly what they must do against the New York Jets at Tottenham. It will likely be the JK Dobbins show, essentially.
The Jets have surrendered 140 rushing yards each contest (sixth worst), five ground scores this season (10th worst), and they are the only team yet to win any game.
Since the NFL began tracking turnovers in 1933, this team are the inaugural squad to be without a single takeaway through five games, which is kind of shocking when you think that their new coach was previously defensive co-ordinator at the Detroit Lions.
Patrick Mahomes stated Kansas City have 'already lost too many games' following a recent loss to Jacksonville.
Following the upcoming matchup, Denver face a manageable slate until their bye (in week twelve) - the Giants, the Cowboys, Houston Texans and Las Vegas Raiders before the Chiefs.
Looking at their division, the Chiefs are 2-3 while Denver are even with the Los Angeles Chargers on 3-2 so they could make a run at leading the division.
It depends upon which form of the Chiefs they meet since the Broncos {beat|def
