Former President Trump stated on Sunday that he has asked the loved ones of a National Guard member killed last week to visit the presidential home.
He mentioned that he contacted her parents and they were “deeply grieving”.
US army specialist Beckstrom, twenty years old, was killed in a attack on Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her comrade, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in serious condition.
Gatherings across the state have occurred in their memory.
The president said he’s discussed a visit to the White House for the parents of both members of the state Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a tough thing, arrive at the White House. We’re going to honor her,” the president addressed reporters. “And in the same way with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”
Mourners assembled over the weekend at a local school in West Virginia to remember Sarah.
Both she and Wolfe had been working with the state guard as part of the president’s government program to support public safety in Washington DC.
“Sarah was the kind of student that teachers wished for. She carried herself with calm resilience, a contagious smile and a upbeat demeanor that encouraged people around her,” the principal, the head of Beckstrom’s alma mater, stated to the Associated Press. “She was caring, compassionate and always eager to assist people.”
Service arrangements for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Authorities have charged a 29-year-old suspect with one count of murder and two counts of violent assault while armed.
The incident caused the administration to pause refugee claims and halt granting visas to owners of travel documents.
The airman, a native of Martinsburg, started his military career in early 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman high school, per the Associated Press.
He continues to receive treatment and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s governor the governor mentioned on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
The state’s top lawyer Bondi told Fox News Sunday that she planned to speak to Wolfe’s family.
Sarah, from Summersville, graduated from Webster County High in 2023 and joined the military shortly after, serving as a law enforcement officer with honor, as stated by the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of goodness and she certainly had fortitude,” the governor told the crowd at the memorial. “Though her time lasted far too short, she has made an impact that’s going to last forever.”
